AEGIS Fights Odor while Protecting the Earth
University of Cambridge Data
Fighting Odor while Protecting the Earth may sound like a super
hero’s dream, but, in fact, it is something within reach of
each of us.
When clothing incorporates the AEGIS Microbe
Shield technology, the garments stay fresher because they are protected
from bacteria and mold. They also protect our planet by saving natural
resources and reducing pollution.
How? Since AEGIS treated textiles
stay fresher longer than common clothing, you can reduce the frequency
of your laundering. That may sound small but, over the life of a
textile, the biggest energy drain is in the laundering it receives.
The standard
residential washer/dryer each year:
- Consumes over 130,000 lbs. of water
- Runs over 392 loads of laundry
- Produces over 2300 lbs. of green house
gasses from energy consumption
- Puts 40 lbs. of detergents and chemicals
into our waterways
- Lower washing can save resources, time,
and reduce utility costs
|
The energy costs to make a garment are extremely small when compared
to the energy costs associated with laundering that same garment
over its usable life. Laundering uses much more energy than manufacturing
the clothing itself. So by laundering an AEGIS
garment after every 7 wears, rather than after each wear like an
untreated garment, the AEGIS treated garment
can save 11,400 lbs. of water, and eliminate 230 lbs. of green house
gases, while minimizing the amount of detergents and chemicals that
are released into our rivers and oceans each year.
The AEGIS technology can be incorporated
into pants, towels, sheets, any fabric of any type. Using these
AEGIS treated goods to replace your old
wares can reduce your overall laundry consumption even further.
But there is another side benefit. Washing less not only saves
resources, it saves you time and that means with AEGIS,
you can spend more time in our great outdoors, smelling as fresh
as a daisy, even after a week long trek.
It’s good to be green, go AEGIS.
